Writing smut and how that all started...

When I first started writing, I never thought I would be writing smut. I grew up in a very conservative house where things as mild as Scooby Doo, Care Bears, Rugrats, and the Little Mermaid were not allowed. As I got older, content like Harry Potter and Twilight also got added to that list. It didn't keep me from consuming that media the moment I left the house though.

I read like crazy as a kid--anything from the Eragon series to Lord of the Rings to eventually Twilight. I read day and night and couldn't get enough of it. I started trying to write standard novels around my sixteenth birthday. I still love to go back and read that old stuff.

When I got to college, my love for reading remained, but I was essentially burnt out from it. As so many people my age have found, I just couldn't get myself to consistently read just about anything. This went on for years. I'd read a book here or there, but nowhere near the amount of reading I did as a kid.

Fast forward to 2020 when everyone was raving about this random and weird book called "Ice Planet Barbarians." I couldn't help but laugh at the idea of it, and I envtually convinced myself that I needed to read it to see if it was as bad as I thought it would be.

I ended up loving it! I read through all of her books in about three weeks, and then I began looking for more just like it. I went on to other "smut" series, and eventually, I found myself reading books like ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, and more. But my original love for that cheesy sci-fi romance never waned.

Four years later, I was discussing this with a bunch of my friends when I decided to try writing a book like this myself. My goal was 50,000 words, and I hit that goal in four weeks. I found that I loved writing this kind of story just as much as I loved reading it. I can't wait to publish this first book and eventually the next two, and I look forward to writing more and more of this kind of fiction in the future!
